MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT

Happy New Year!

The year of 2006 was filled with successes and disappointments. We hope to continue to build on the positive results and overcome disappointments with new knowledge as we move forward. The energy and support of our members is essential to moving forward. Please renew your membership with the enclosed form. Note the opportunity to specify support for our two premier activities, our 8th Prescott Earth Day Celebration and our 2nd Wildlife Symposium.

To facilitate the planning of these two activities, OSA is drawing on the services of Ashley Fine and Elizabeth Majors to coordinate the two events. The Earth Day Celebration is scheduled for April 21st at Granite Creek Park, and the Wildlife Symposium for September 28th and 29th at Sharlot Hall Museum. These two champions are already making great strides in planning the events, but they can not do it on their own. Please contact Ashley at 445-1264 or creasotebsh@yahoo.com to add your talents to the efforts.

New energy has been added to our Greenways Committee with a number of new members and the leadership of Chair Laurel Freeman. Again, the concept of many hands making for light work, please contact Laurel to join this exciting effort at 442-3366 or laurelfreeman@hotmail.com.

The election of last November provided a major disappointment for members of OSA with the rejection of Proposition 106. The State Trust Land issue is not dead, and will not disappear. Conversations have taken place amongst supporters of Proposition 106 about what the next step might be, and OSA will stay involved in the process.

As we embark on 2007, we will take our first meeting of the year, Wednesday, January 17, 2007, Noon to 3:00 PM, a strategic planning retreat to refine and solidify our activities for the coming year. Please join us as we set our course for the new year.

Our success in maintaining the quality of life afforded by the unique features of Central Yavapai County requires the support and involvement of current members to continue our important education and advocacy roles. Please consider a renewed commitment to our efforts and fill in and return the included personal membership application. Thank you for your support.

Looking Forward,
Thomas L. Pettit, Ph.D., President
